Zainab Adil Gandhi MSc.

Individual & Couple Therapist

Zainab Gandhi believes in her profession and her clients.

Zainab has completed her Masters in Psychological Counselling, specializing in Marriage and Family therapies. She is a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Zainab has had 6 years of experience in counselling with Adults, Couples, Parents & Children. She understands that for clients to speak to a complete stranger about their concerns is very challenging. Therefore, her approach to counselling and therapy is client centered. She works with empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard to make sure that the client is extremely comfortable and in a very happy space. It is important to her to establish a good rapport to be able to bring about a healthy change in her clients. She believes in the ‘Human Potential’ that each client brings with him/her. Zainab chooses to be a facilitator in the process, where she guides the clients with her education and experience.  Once she has made the client comfortable in the session, she then moves ahead to use a Cognitive, Behavioral or an Emotional orientation, depending on what the client is willing to receive at that point in time.

Zainab has experience working with issues such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, low self-esteem, bullying, parenting challenges, marital concerns, divorce, building healthy communication, relationships, balancing work and life, and dealing with a death of a loved one. She loves to use a variety of visual aids with her clients, which will help them understand their concerns more effectively. Her ultimate goal is to make sure the clients can be independent and cope with their problems efficiently.

Michelle Couto

Michelle Couto MA, RP

Registered Psychotherapist

Michelle is a Registered Psychotherapist who supports her clients through a wide range of mental health problems including addiction, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, stress management, PTSD, interpersonal difficulties and vocational issues. She earned her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hartford in Connecticut, where she graduated on the Dean’s List and obtained a coveted practicum placement at the Yale School of Medicine.

While there, Michelle completed her field training by providing individual and group counselling for research studies examining the efficacy of various therapeutic approaches to treating mental health and addiction. Upon completing her practium, Michelle was subsequently hired to work as a Primary Counsellor at Yale where she became proficient in techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Behavioural Activation, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction and Relapse Prevention.

Michelle works in collaboration with the client to identify which cognitive, emotional and behavioural habits are maintaining the problem behaviour. Next, she works to identify the triggers and payoffs associated with each of these problematic habits and then works to replace them with more adaptive alternatives.

Since the greatest determinant of the therapeutic outcome is the client-therapist relationship, Michelle believes in fostering a strong therapeutic alliance with her clients by creating a safe, non-judgmental space where the Rogerian principles of empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard are used to build a strong patient-therapist rapport.

Additionally, Michelle often uses techniques to build self-efficacy in order to empower her clients and enhance their belief that they will successfully maintain their newer, more helpful habits, even during those situations typically seen as high risk for relapse. In other words, the patient’s belief that he or she can cope with a particular stressor or trigger, without resorting to their previous habits, is a key component in turning newer, more adaptive behaviours into sustainable and lasting change.

Michelle is a member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Registered Social Worker and Couples Counsellor

Whether you’re looking to address current life challenges, or issues from the past, you don’t have to do it alone. Together we can help you move forward with confidence and security, and to guide you to a deeper understanding of you.

I work well with a broad assortment of people and issues. Most commonly my clients come to therapy suffering from depression, anxiety, or experiencing stress coping with their day-to-day lives. Some struggle with being authentic, single, functional within their relationship, or their sexuality in general. I work to help clients reach their goals with all of these issues and more, as I believe that developing a strong relationship with my clients is of the utmost importance for successful therapy.

I studied at NYU School of Social Work, the Regent’s College School of Psychotherapy, and the Tavistock Institution in London, focusing on my interests in Relational, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, addiction, sexuality, and shame- induced trauma.

Becoming a therapist was a second career for me, one that was discovered through my work as a coach and personal fitness trainer, and my own personal therapeutic work. I embrace the challenges set before us. While there is no one way to participate in therapy, developing more internal peace and self-compassion will be a central goal of our work.
