Therapies: Person-Centred and Humanistic Psychotherapy

Person-Centred and Humanistic Psychotherapy KMA Therapy Toronto

What is Person-Centred/Humanistic Therapy?

Person-Centred Therapy is a very supportive and nurturing form of therapy where the therapist gives you a truly empathetic ear and the time and space to sort through the issues of life

Person-Centred / Humanistic Counselling was started by Carl Rogers, in the 1940’s and grew to achieve a great following. The goal of Person-Centred Therapy is to provide us with an opportunity to develop a sense of self wherein we can realize how our attitudes, feelings and behavior are being negatively affected and make an effort to find our true positive potential.

What does a Person-Centred Therapy session look like?

In this technique, therapists create a comfortable, non-judgmental environment by demonstrating genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard toward their patients while using a non-directive approach. If you have a strong urge in the direction of exploring yourself and if you value personal responsibility, you may be particularly attracted to the person-centred approach. You and your therapist will discuss the best course of action regarding how often you will meet. It is common to meet at least once a week, but this can vary.
